As part of a nationwide effort to preserve and enhance the world’s longest trail network, Rossburn Subdivision Trail Association (RSTA) is participating in Trail Care Day as part of Manitoba Trails Day, happening June 1, 2024.
Trail Care Day is a national event supported by Trans Canada Trail, the organization that stewards and maintains Canada’s 28,000 km trail network. The event, held on International Trails Day, which has also officially become Manitoba Trails Day, calls on trail groups and volunteers across Canada to take part in a local trail care event and leave their mark on the Trans Canada Trail.
RSTA’s Manitoba Trails Day will take place in Erickson, starting with an inaugural 4.5 km walk along the Rossburn Subdivision Trail and the new storybook trail at the Viking Boat (end of Main Street) at 11:00 am. Our first storybook will be The Water Walker by Joanne Robertson, a kind suggestion by Aaron McKay, Anishinabee from Rolling River First Nation, who will be walking with us.
It will conclude with a BBQ as well as an introduction and ribbon cutting of the new water tower rest stop (junction HWY 10/Road 107.5 W) at 1:00 pm. The event will also include remarks from the Minister of Environment and Climate, the Honourable Tracy Schmidt; the Executive Director of Trails Manitoba, Tim Coffin; Anishinaabe of Rolling River First Nation and Student Success Officer at Assiniboine Community College, Aaron McKay; MLA Greg Nesbitt; and Trans Canada Trail Coordinator, Visitor Experience, Melisa Stefaniw.
“Manitoba Trails Day gives the perfect opportunity to come together and celebrate the Rossburn Subdivision Trail and the great assets it has for our communities,” says Dave Walker, Vice-Chair RSTA.
“Trail Care Day embodies the spirit of grassroots stewardship. Communities can shape their local trail experience while contributing to the collective preservation of Canada’s iconic trail network,” says Meghan Reddick, Interim CEO at Trans Canada Trail. “There’s something extremely special about a national effort to care for the Trail that connects us all.”
