Reports say 17-year-old Grade 12 student, Blaine Ruppenthal, died of complications from influenza.

The news was sent in a letter to parents on Monday by the principal of Kelvin High School in Winnipeg.

There is also another report that a 24-year-old woman from Morden,  Joanne Ens, also died from flu complications.

Manitoba Health has only one 'confirmed' flu-related death that happened in December.

It says only 22% of Manitobans have received the flu shot this season.

Last season - the flu killed 17 people in the province.

Q Country News has reached out to Prairie Mountain Health about flu numbers in Brandon - and the possibility of a spike in cases.
