With a surge in coronavirus cases in Manitoba over the weekend - is it time for a night curfew?

During the pandemic, a number of countries such as Australia, China and Spain have brought in curfews from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am, with exemptions for anyone needing necessary goods and services.

Experts say when done right, night curfews shorten lockdown periods and help flatten curves - but if done incorrectly, curfews can lead to more people defying orders and larger spikes in cases.

The idea is to keep the possibly asymptomatic and healthy people from mixing at bars and nightclubs, but this means less time during the day to get things done creating a bigger mix of people at stores during the afternoon, for example.

In Canada, there have been no mass provincial curfews.
