More cases of the flu have popped up in Westman, but there are fewer than last year.
Medical Health Officer Dr. Mahmoud Khodaveisi says from September 1st to December 30th there have been 37 reported cases of the flu - down from 88 for the same period in 2018. He adds this could be an under-estimation of the true numbers because many patients may not have sought out medical attention.
He says most are Influenza A - but they're seeing an increase in cases of Influenza B in the last week.
Reported cases of respiratory illness remain low - but outbreaks have been reported at care homes including Fairview in Brandon, Bren Del Win Lodge in Deloraine - and Dauphin Personal Care Home.
Dr. Khodaveisi says it's not too late to get the flu shot to protect yourself and those around you. It's available at medical clinics and pharmacies.
