Dylan Cozens scored twice, including the OT winner as the Lethbridge Hurricanes completed the comeback with a 6-5 win at Westoba Place on Saturday night.
Brandon let two three-goal leads slip away in one of the most entertaining hockey games of the season.
The win snapped a ten-game winning streak for the Wheat Kings, their longest since the 2017 season and the WHL's longest of the season so far.
"These guys know how to play," Lowry said of the Hurricanes. "We were in control of the hockey game and once again we got a little sloppy in our execution and we ended up giving up some real quality chances."
Cozens finished the night with three points and was named the first star of the game. Meanwhile, Logan Barlage scored twice and added an assist, matching Cozens step for step.
The Hurricanes finished 1/6 on the powerplay while Brandon failed to convert on five chances. The emotional game saw several post-whistle scrums and numerous 4on4 scenarios, but Brandon's untimely penalties put a strain on their bench.
"Discipline is a factor every night," added Lowry. "We talk about those plays after the whistle all the time. When you start to take those types of penalties it makes it hard on your team and it takes a lot of guys out of the hockey game."
Brandon led 3-0 and 4-1 on goals from Cole Reinhardt (1G), Ridly Greig (1G-1A), Ben McCartney (1G-1A) and Reid Perepeluk (1G) but gave up five of the last six goals of the hockey game.
The single point does go a long way however, both Prince Albert (OTL) and Winnipeg (W) picked up points tonight. Those two clubs are tied for first in the East Division with 57 points, with the Wheat Kings hot on their tail with 54 points.
"This game had playoff written all over it with the intensity level and the physicality," said Lowry. "We did a really good job playing heavy and hard but when you stop playing that way it allows them to get their game going."
A four-game Alberta road trip awaits the Wheat Kings this week. The first stop on the tour is Rogers Place in Edmonton, where the top team in the Central Division awaits.
