On Tuesday, July 21st at around 7:20 pm - Wasagaming RCMP responded to a report that a man had threatened to shoot a woman.
The woman managed to escape safety, but the man remained at a home in the RM of Harrison Park - about 10 km from Onanole. Police say it was reported he was in possession of firearms.
Wasagaming RCMP and officers from numerous neighbouring detachments attended the scene, and the Emergency Response Team along with officers from the D Division Critical Incident Program, were deployed. Officers contained the area until the Emergency Response Team along with the Tactical Armoured Vehicle (TAV) attended the scene.
The next morning, July 22nd at approximately 3:30 am - RCMP say the TAV breached the door of the residence - and at that point the suspect exited the home and surrendered. He was suffering from a serious, self-inflicted gunshot injury and was treated at the scene by RCMP medics, and local emergency medical personnel, before being transported to hospital - where at last report - he was in stable condition.
A 60-year-old man faces several charges including Uttering Threats and Pointing a Firearm.
Police say as the suspect sustained serious injury, and as per section 65(1) of the Police Services Act, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was immediately notified and are investigating.
