Province reporting 109 new cases and one additional death due to COVID-19

The province is advising of another death due to COVID-19, a man in his 90s from the Winnipeg health region, increasing the toll to 943.

Health officials also announced 109 new cases, however two cases have been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 107 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 34,656. 

Of the new cases; two are in the Southern health region, three in the Interlake-Eastern health region, four in Prairie Mountain health, 49 in the Northern health region, and 51 in the Winnipeg health region. 

In Prairie Mountain health, a total of 70 cases remain active, four of which are in Brandon, with 1,294 active province-wide. There are also 61 covid patients currently in hospital battling the virus and 14 in intensive care units. The current five-day test positivity rate decreased slightly to 4.8 per cent provincially, down from 5.3 on Tuesday. 

Meantime, another 22 new screened or sequenced cases of the B.1.1.7 variants of concern have been identified in Manitoba.. Of these, one is in the Prairie Mountain Health region, and the rest, 21, from the Winnipeg health region. There has also been three new screened or sequenced uncategorized cases detected as well. One is from the Interlake-Eastern Health Region and two are from the Winnipeg health region. This brings the total number of variant of concern cases in Manitoba to 299.

There was also a possible exposure at Brandon's Real Canadian Superstore between March 27 and the 29.
