Province reporting 251 new cases and one additional death due to COVID-19

The province is reporting one more death due to COVID-19, a man in his 50s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern.

Health officials also announced 251 new cases of the virus, however, one case has been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 250 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 39,524. 

Of the new cases; 14 are in Prairie Mountain health, 15 are in the Northern health region, 18 in Southern health, 20 in the Interlake-Eastern health region, and 184 in the Winnipeg health region. The current five-day test positivity rate increased slightly to 8 per cent provincially, up from 7.7 on Sunday (May 2). 

Meantime, the province's total number of variant of concern cases has increased to 2,344, and of those 187 have been in Prairie Mountain health.
