The Brandon Wheat Kings named the 64th captain in club history on Thursday afternoon.
Prince Albert, SK native Braden Schneider will wear the 'C' when the Wheat Kings return to action next month in Regina.
Schneider, a 1st round pick of the New York Rangers has played three seasons in Brandon and finished last season with a career high 42-points.
“Braden was a part of our leadership group last year and he’s a big part of our hockey club”, says Wheat Kings Head Coach, Don MacGillivray.
“He’s coming back for his fourth year and is a respected leader on the ice and in our dressing room. He’s a player who has always done everything he’s asked and he was the obvious choice to lead our group this season. He’s a great person to show our players how to play in the Western Hockey League and how to be a Wheat King.”
Meanwhile a trio of players with Brandon connections have been named to the leadership group of the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Daemon Hunt was named Team Captain on Thursday with Tate Popple and Calder Anderson joining him as Alternates.
All three players grew up in the Brandon Minor Hockey system.
The WHL's East Division "Hub" begins on Friday, March 12th at the Brandt Centre in Regina, SK.
