Brandon native and former NHL'er Sheldon Kennedy was recently inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and has received the "Order of Sport".

The former NHL'er co-founded the Respect Group, that works to prevent bullying, abuse and discrimination in sports, schools and at workplaces. Kennedy says he was shocked and humbled when he received the call, "I accept this award and this gift on behalf of all of the people that have been pulling on the rope and helping to make a difference in this area. And all those that have found themselves in a situation were they felt that haven't had a voice."

In the beginning, he says it was tough raising these issues, "We weren't very welcomed in a lot of places because this issues carried a lot of fear and the unknown."

He says the induction tells Canada, and the world, that child protection and keeping sport safe and welcoming is a priority. Over the past 23 years they've tried to make sport a better place, and will continue to raise the bar.
