63-year-old man charged with second-degree murder

Brandon police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene of a house explosion, in the 200 block of Queens Avenue East, on Tuesday, October 22nd, at around 7:50 pm.  When officers arrived, they located the body of a 63-year-old woman. A 63-year-old man was found suffering from injuries, and transported to Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre by STARS air ambulance, where he underwent treatment. Since the incident, members of the Brandon Police Service Major Crimes Section continued to investigate in cooperation with the Office of the Fire Commission. The investigation led police to determine the woman's death was not accidental. On Friday October 25th, Brandon Police attended Health Sciences Centre, where the 63-year-old suspect was being released from medical care, and arrested him. On Friday evening, he was brought back to Brandon and lodged at Brandon Correctional Centre. He was to appear in court on a charge of 2nd Degree Murder on Saturday, October 26th.
