The Brandon Wheat Kings have jumped into the 2020 WHL Trade Deadline frenzy with a one for one deal with the Prince George Cougars.
Coming to Brandon is 6'3", 215-pound winger Reid Perepeluk from the Prince George Cougars. Headed the other way is 19-year-old forward Jonny Hooker.
"We felt we had to had a bigger forward that plays with a purpose, and Reid does just that," said General Manager Darren Ritchie. "Both teams feel this is a good hockey trade and think Reid will complement our group really well."
Perepeluk, originally from Yorkton, SK has played in 96 career WHL games, scoring eight times, adding 11 assists and 124 penalty minutes.
In 31 games with the Cougars this season, Perepeluk has four goals, five assists and 51 penalty minutes.
Meanwhile, Hooker moves to the BC Division after spending his entire three-year career with the team he grew up watching (Born & raised in Brandon).
In 134 WHL games, Hooker has scored 14 times and added 13 assists for 27 points.
"Jonny was a boy who was raised here and has been a part of this program for a long time," added Ritchie. "We know he's going to get a great opportunity in Prince George and we wish him nothing but the best."
Hooker is expected to fly to Saskatoon to join the Cougars tomorrow and could be in their lineup as soon as tomorrow night when they continue their East Division road trip in Prince Albert.
Meanwhile, Perepeluk will be in Brandon sometime tomorrow and will be a game-time decision for the evening affair vs the Red Deer Rebels.
