6-3 win over Victoria

It wasn’t exactly how the Brandon Wheat Kinga drew it up, but they will take the end result.

The Wheat Kings picked up a 6-3 win over Victoria on Friday night despite being outshot 48-37, including a 20-9 run in the second period.

"I though tour goalie early on was great," said Head Coach Dave Lowry. "We gave up a lot of chances early in the first which is uncharacteristic of us. It was really opportunistic to score when we did and find ourselves up 4-0 after one."

Jiri Patera was once again on his game, stopping 45 shots for the win. The three goals that beat him all came on the powerplay.

"It's a lesson for us tonight that we have to learn," added Lowry. "When the penalty kill isn't working and we're giving up goals, we need to play on the right side of the puck and not take penalties."

Brandon created some early momentum by killing a Royals powerplay. That lead to a four-goal outburst in the final 4:37 of the opening frame.

The Royals fires back in the second, scoring twice on the powerplay, getting themselves within reach.

Brandon would put the game away in the third with two goals, including their only PP marker.

Luka Burzan led the way with two goals while a Vinny Iorio and Ridly Greig each chipped in with a goal and an assist. Cole Reinhardt and Lynden McCallum had the other goals for Brandon.

Tarun Fizer (2A) and Gary Haden (1G-2A) carried the offensive load for Victoria, who was beginning their six-game East Division road trip on Friday.

Brandon stretches their win streak to 10 games and will look to keep the train rolling on Saturday night when the Lethbridge Hurricanes come to town.

"We got away from our work ethic in the second period here tonight," said forward Cole Reinhardt. "We had a good start and a decent all-around effort but tomorrow night is a big test and we need to be better in every part of our game."

The Hurricanes are coming off a 7-2 win in Regina on Friday night and have won seven of their last ten outings.

Game time at Westoba Place is 7:30.
