Ben McCartney had a three-point night (1G-2A) as the Brandon Wheat Kings snapped a two-game losing skid with a 4-1 win over the Regina Pats on Monday night.
Ridly Greig, Luka Burzan and Ty Thorpe also scored for Brandon while the defense corps chipped in with four assists on the night, despite going 0/8 on the powerplay.
Brandon had a 2-0 lead at the 2nd intermission but gave up an early goal to Cole Dubinsky, before busting the game open with two goals in 1:03 before the period was five minutes old.
"I thought we got after them early and sustained it for 60 minutes tonight," said defenseman Neithan Salame. "We played three periods and ground out the win."
Jiri Patera and Max Paddock each made several highlight-reel stops on the night. Patera takes home the win and 2nd-star honors after making 34 saves, while Paddock takes the loss in a 29 save effort.
Brandon's win moves them to 16-17-1-2 on the season, two points back of the 3rd place Saskatoon Blades.
With three games under their belt in four days, Salame says there should be no more holiday excuses.
"I think now we have all the rust out from the Christmas break," "We did some good things on Saturday in Winnipeg and we brought them to the rink here tonight and it turned out well for us."
The Wheat Kings will ring in the new year tomorrow night in Moose Jaw. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 at Mosiac Place.
