Last week, the Tampa Bay Lightning won their second championship in team history defeating the Dallas Stars, and now the challenge to repeat begins this week. Free Agent Frenzy which usually takes place on Canada Day, July 1, has been moved to this Friday, October 9 because of COVID-19. However, before teams can sign unrestricted free agents, this years NHL Draft, which was to be held in Montreal back in June, will get underway virtually, starting at 7pm ET, Tuesday October 6.
The Brandon Wheat Kings are expected to be well represented in this years draft with three players who could be selected, including two who could go in the first round.
Right-handed defenseman Braden Schneider, who back in April was ranked 9th among all North American skaters, is projected to go in round 1 at pick 15. The team selecting in that spot at the moment is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The next Wheat King who could hear is name called is right winger Ridly Greig who ranks 14th among North American skaters. Greig is also projected to go in round 1, six spots after Schneider, at 21. If he is selected at 21 it would make him the newest member of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The final Wheat King who could be selected in this years draft is forward Ben McCartney, who ranked 153rd among North American Skaters.
Rounds 2-7 will be held Wednesday, October 7 beginning at 11:30 am ET.
