Brandon wins 4-3

The Brandon Wheat Kings extended their winning streak to five games with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night.

Ridly Greig scored twice in the third period, including the game-winner with 1.0 left on the clock to lift Brandon to victory.

Brandon trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes but exploded for two goals in a span of 0:51 seconds including a shorthanded marker from Ty Thorpe to shift the momentum of the hockey game.

"I liked the way we came out in the third period, we showed lots of resiliency," said Head Coach Dave Lowry.  "For the most part tonight we stayed with what we wanted to do. We knew we were going to see a different Medicine Hat team than what we saw in their building. We did a good job making them play through us, we did a good job checking and a good job shutting down the middle of the ice."

Despite having his shutout streak snapped at 156:26, Jiri Patera turned in another magical performance, making 44 saves for his 12th win of the season.

"We played really well as a team tonight," Patera said on the post-game show.  "We've played well in the D-zone lately. Everyone is chipping in defensively and it's been easy for me to see pucks. Our guys were hard on their defenseman and e bared down on the chances we got."

After minor surgery to correct a nagging ankle issue, Patera spent two-weeks working with Vegas Golden Knights goaltending development coach Mike Rosati. The time spent together has proved invaluable in his play since.

"I was definitely struggling when I came back from my injury," he added.  "Mike came here and worked with me and when he left, I took what he said to heart and I felt like I have now got back to my game."

The win is Brandon's 20th of the season and puts them four points up on the Saskatoon Blades. Prince Albert earned a single point in an OT loss to Red Deer tonight, moving them five points up on the BWK for 2nd spot in the Division.

The Wheat Kings will welcome Red Deer to Westoba Place on Friday night. Game time is 7:30.
