In a media release from the City of Brandon, "Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the Water Treatment Facility lost power earlier this afternoon (Oct 19) causing some residents to temporarily lose access to water.
The power outage led to the loss of water pressure in the western portion of the Brandon distribution system [south of the Assiniboine River to Richmond, west of 18th Street]. Distribution depressurization can compromise the safety of the water supply; therefore, a boil water advisory has been issued to ensure public health protection.
Until further notice, all water used for consumption in the affected area should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used for:
- Drinking and ice making
- Preparing beverages, such as infant formula
- Preparing food, including washing fruits and vegetables
- Brushing teeth
The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until the water supplied by this water system no longer presents a risk to public health. You will be notified through a Public Service Announcement when the advisory has been rescinded.
Power has since been returned to the Water Treatment Facility.
