A popular Halloween attraction near Brandon has decided to cancel this year because of COVID-19.
The organizers of Grim Acres Scare Away Cancer, south of Kemnay, say the growing number of cases in the region has made the event too risky – but they encourage you to continue making donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
In a social media post over the weekend, Amber and Brian Sutherland said “we regret to inform everyone that due to the logistics and risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic, we will not be holding our annual event this year.
However, while this is indeed sad news and trying times, hope still exists and thrives. Now is the time to continue to work together to end cancer. There are still those who need our hope, who need our help, who need our healing. Only together can we continue to work towards the goal of scaring away cancer forever. Let us build a better tomorrow. Let us push away the negative things that have happened in 2020 and let us focus on 2021 being the best year of our lives.
Together, we will all stand and fight, and we will win, so that tomorrows children will never have to live in fear of this terrible disease. We will NOT lose.
Please consider continuing our great work in Westman and supporting the Canadian Cancer Society. Please use the easy to use donate button, to donate online, now.”
Last year – Grim Acres raised $20,820 – and in the last 10 years – over $101,000. A link to the Canadian Cancer Society can be found below.
