All this water in Brandon has created fertile mosquito breeding conditions, and we've moved into the 'medium" range for the mosquito population.
The city says counts have gone up a bit since the last trapping (an average of 60 was recorded on Saturday, July 4th and an average of 61 was recorded on Sunday, July 5th), but mosquito fogging will not proceed at this time, as necessary trap count thresholds have not been reached. Parks & Recreation Services crews continue to larvicide areas of standing water as necessary this week and trap counts will be collected this coming weekend.
With the recent rainfall and hot temperatures we've seen, It is likely the next round of counts will result in a significantly higher number of nuisance mosquitoes and we will, of course, react accordingly once those counts are in.
