Sand Hills Casino, south of Carberry, has been trying to get up-to-speed after a lengthy COVID-19 shutdown only to find itself part of a mix-up over the rules for new government restrictions.
It happened Monday when the province released the restrictions for its new ‘orange’ pandemic response level for Prairie Mountain Health region.
Casino marketing manager Frank McGwire said the government mistake cost them business – the players weren’t playing.
“The first few days of this week we were way off our usual numbers,” said McGwire, “Obviously Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were at least 60% below what we usually get.”
He said they were fielding “upwards of 25 calls a day. We gauged it on that; people want to check (because) it’s a bit of a drive for most folks.”
He says now that everyone knows Sand Hills is open – it should be a decent rest-of-the-week. “The hours are 11:00 am to 1:00 am Sunday through Thursday, and then 11:00 am to 3:00 am Friday and Saturday,” said McGwire.
He reminds you physical distancing is in place, they’ve increased cleaning and sanitizing – and masks are mandatory.
