Lac du Bonnet RCMP recover stolen semi-automatic handgun

Police say the RCMP-issued firearm had been stolen from a safe in an officer's home in 2019

Lac du Bonnet RCMP became aware of a male in possible possession of a firearm at a hotel in Lac du Bonnet. On March 20, 2023, at approximately 11:15 am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP executed a search warrant and arrested a 35-year-old male. Officers located a semi-automatic handgun during their search.

Cody Tronrud of Lac du Bonnet is charged with:

- Possession of Weapons Contrary to Court Order
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x2

The suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant for Aggravated Assault, Uttering Threats, and Failing to Attend Court. He was remanded into custody.

Investigation determined the firearm seized was reported stolen from the residence of a RCMP officer residing in the City of Winnipeg in 2019. The firearm was a RCMP-issued firearm that had been stolen from a safe in the officer's residence. The break and enter is a Winnipeg Police Service investigation. Information was provided to the public and the media at the time of the theft.
