The repercussions of a cancelled Manitoba Junior Hockey League game December 21st between the Virden Oil Capitals and Neepawa Natives is still up in the air.
The Natives were unable to ice a team with the minimum number of players required because of injuries and illness.
However, Neepawa did not have league permission before postponing the game, sparking an investigation that MJHL commissioner Kim Davis says is still ongoing.
Davis says the league’s board of governors will deal with the matter including whether the game will be made up at a later date or be awarded to Virden as a forfeiture.
Another issue that will need to be considered by the board is how the Oil Caps could be financially compensated after losing a potentially lucrative saturday night home game just prior to Christmas.
Meanwhile, the Oil Capitals have picked up a forward without making a trade on Wednesday.
The WHL’s Red Deer Rebels have assigned 18-year old Christian Stockl to Virden.
The Winnipeg product had one goal in 16 games with Red Deer this season and has four goals and 11 points in 78 games over his two-year WHL career.
The Oil Caps also named Corey Haverstick as their Player of the Month for December.
Haverstick had nine goals and 14 points in nine games last month.
