Brandon’s Cassie Hawrysh will not be heading to the Olympics.
The women’s skeletor had her Olympic dream officially end when Skeleton Canada decided to pull it’s women’s sleds out of Friday’s World Cup Race in Igls, Austria.
The decision means that Canada won’t have the chance to send a third sled to Sochi, and means the previously named Sarah Reid and Mellisa Hollingsworth were be the lone two Canadian women’s skeleton racers at the Games.
All three women on the Canadian World Cup team — Reid, Hollingsworth and Robyn Thompson — started to experience concussion symptoms after training runs on the World Cup track this week and were pulled from the race for precautionary reasons.
Both Hollingsworth and Reid have previously experienced concussion symptoms in their careers.
Hawrysh and Thompson were seen as competitors for a possible third spot on the Olympic team but, instead, neither will attend.
Thompson will attend the World Junior Championships while it appears Hawrysh’s season could be over.
The Canadian men, including Russell’s Jon Montgomery, will suit up for their final World Cup race prior to the 2014 Games on Saturday.
A solid race for Montgomery could earn Canada a third men’s sled and the 2010 Olympic gold medalist strong consideration to fill that third spot.
