Upset that Brandon School Division is at a lower health restriction level than the rest of the city, a group of parents and teachers are rallying and marching today (Aug 27).
Prairie Mountain Health is under the province’s ‘orange’ or restricted pandemic response designation, which among other things, requires masks in all indoor public places. The school division is still under the lowe ‘yellow’ designation.
One protest begins at 9:00 am at City Hall – the second this afternoon (around 3:45 pm) at the school division offices on 6th Street.
Brandon School Division Superintendent Dr. Marc Casavant is expected to provide an update on the division’s pandemic re-opening plans at 4:00 pm on the city’s YouTube channel.
The group organizing the protests, “Safe September Brandon”, would like to see a number of things implemented before school begins on September 8th including smaller class sizes for better physical distancing, better ventilation in schools, more support for teachers and staff, and improved remote learning.
