On May 30, 2023, at approximately 9:15 am, Virden RCMP received a report of a deceased male found on Cemetery Road in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Officers attended and noted signs of the male being struck by a vehicle.
Investigation determined the identity of the deceased male as a 21-year-old male from the community. He had been walking with friends when he split off from the group to head down Cemetery Road. Officers continued investigating and in the early hours of May 31, 2023, seized a vehicle in the community that is of interest in the investigation. That examination is continuing.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of a RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team
