There’s been no huge downpours in the last few days, but any amount of rain raises concerns at Rivers Dam.
Storms earlier this month filled the reservoir behind the dam to the breaking point – but since then – the water level has dropped.
In an email, the Manitoba Government says “the dam at Rivers continues to be monitored on a 24/7 basis. Manitoba infrastructure has plans to conduct a detailed inspection once water levels recede to below the spillway level.
The current water level at the dam is 468.88 m (1538.3 feet), a drop of 7 feet from the peak level observed on July 1st. The current level is 2.3 feet above the spillway level and the outflow from the reservoir is estimated at 1800 cubic feet per second. The level is forecasted to remain above the spillway level until early August.”
In the meantime – the temporary plug in Brandon’s dike system, across Gand Valley Road and 18th Street North, will stay in place until water levels upstream return to normal.
