WestJet is set to layoff off 3,333 employees, permanently, as part of major restructuring of operations in response to COVID-19.
The company says it will consolidate call centre activity in Alberta, restructure its office and management staff and contract out operations at all but four of the 38 Canadian airports where it operates.
WestJet CEO Ed Sims says the changes are unavoidable, as the pandemic has caused two-thirds of its fleet to be grounded after border shutdowns back in March.
According to reports the move will see the loss of 114 jobs in Manitoba including 12 in Brandon.
