The Brandon Wheat Kings ended their western road trip at 5-and-3 after a tough 5-1 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday night (Oct 22).
The first period was a disaster for the Wheat Kings allowing 3 goals in the opening 20. First, Reid Anderson was left all alone near the crease allowing him to redirect a shot between the legs of Nick Jones and in to make it 1-0 Tigers. Then less than two minutes later the Tigers would go on the powerplay with Owen MacNeill scoring with a one timed shot to make it 2-0. The Wheat Kings would push throughout the period but would surrender a shothanded goal with only 6 seconds remaining in the opening frame when Hunter St Martin placed a shot off the pad of Nick Jones allowing Pavel Bocharov to cash in the rebound to make it 3-0 after one.
The Wheat Kings would make things interesting with a Brett Hyland powerplay goal to cut the lead to 3-1 Tigers, but Medicine Hat would go back on numerous powerplays scoring a pair within the final 2 minutes of the game to make it a 5-1 final.
