How To: Make the perfect grilled cheese

I think that one thing that almost everyone in Westman can agree on is this: Grilled Cheese sandwiches are the BEST. So simple, so delicious...they've been one of my favourite sandwiches for my entire life. After years of fine tuning, I have some tips for making the ultimate grilled cheese that I want to share with everyone.

  1. Use mayo instead of butter. The last step before putting your sandwich in the frying pan is to butter the sides...but I say use mayo instead. It adds a very subtle (but nice) flavour, and actually helps the sandwich to brown up better/more evenly. 
  2. Don't be afraid to mix cheeses. Variety is the spice of life, after all. Cheddar and mozza? Go for it. Brie and havarti? Sure! Whatever floats your boat, the goal of a good grilled cheese is enjoyment as much as sustinence, if you ask me.
  3. Add some "extras". While a normal grilled cheese is awesome, wouldn't a few strips of bacon in it be even MORE awesome? Maybe some grilled onions? Ham? Experiment until you find the perfect flavour combo for you!
