I've tried plain white milk, at all its various percentages. I've tried chocolate milk. I've even tried strawberry milk, and banana milk. Until today, I've never tasted milk with a distinct smoky aftertaste. Let me be the first to tell you: it really isnt that good. Like, at all.
Now to be fair, this wasn't intentional. There's no "hickory-infused milk" in the dairy cases at your local supermarket. I was on the way to work today, and grabbed a few single-serving sized bottles of milk to drink while I worked. Well, when I took a big swig, I was immensely shocked to find it had a VERY distinct smoke aftertaste...as if I had just been served a charcuterie board instead of a cool dairy beverage.
After a little research, I've determined that at some point during the process of farm-to-store, some of the sugars in the milk must have gotten too warm and caramalized, producing said smokey flavour. Everything else I've had tonight both smells and tastes fine (No COVID here).
Has this happened to anyone else? It's frustrating as heck...all I want is a cool drink of milk! Is that too much to ask?!?!
