For as long as I remembered, I’ve always liked shooting a little pool. Maybe it was something about the fact that anyone can pick up a cue and play, maybe it was the fact that it was a “game for Grown-Ups to play in bars” that drew me to it when I was younger. Whatever the reason, it’s always been one of my favourite ways to pass the time.
Recently, my Dad has gotten himself a pool table for his rec room, and I’m thrilled. Finally, a place where I can go to play for free, whenever I want! That being said…it’s been a while since I’ve played. What if I can’t remember how to break properly? What if I get my angles wrong and can’t make a single shot? What if I scratch on the 8-Ball?! It was after those thoughts came about that I realized: I need to get myself in top playing condition. Therefore, to do that, I’ve decided I should get my own cue.
Now, as someone who’s never owned their own cue, what should I look for? Do I go for a more weighty version? Something light and supple? Long? Short? I need answers! If any of y’all out there shoot pool, let me know the kind of cue you use, and why. It’s my goal to get good at the game again, and with some practice, and a little shopping beforehand, I know I’m gonna get there. (Also, what’s your favourite place to shoot some pool in Westman?)
