The Brandon University men’s volleyball team closed out their season on a losing note on Saturday night.
The Bobcats got 13 kills from Frank Jones in dropping a four set decision to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 25-23) in the bronze medal match at the Canada West Final Four in Langley, B.C.
Failing to get to CIS nationals and coming back from the conference championship empty handed is a tough pill to swallow.
"Right now it feels so disappointing and so empty, missing out on that opportunity," said BU coach Grant Wilson, "At the end of the day our conference is the best conference in the country and to finish in the top four is a pretty good accomplishment and someday it’ll feel good, it just doesn’t feel good right now."
Sebastien Steigmeier scored 11 kills while Sam Tuivai added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs for the BU men’s team.
Conference second-team all-star Dan Boutwell had 10 kills and six blocks in the final game of his career for the Bobcats.
Alberta claimed the Canada West title, sweeping the Trinity Western Spartans in straight sets in the final.
Meanwhile, Brandon product Lisa Barclay had 13 kills to lead the UBC Thunderbirds to a straight sets win over the Manitoba Bisons in the Canada West women’s volleyball final.
The T-Birds repeat as Canada West champions and will now go for a seventh straight CIS Championship next weekend in Regina.
