Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – A crazy game and crazy finish brought the Healthy Living Centre crowd to their feet, but it couldn’t will the Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team to a victory, as they fell 105-103 in overtime to the Winnipeg Wesmen.
A back and forth affair, throughout four quarters ended with one of the craziest scenes you will ever see in a basketball game. The Bobcat’s Tyvon Cooper hit a massive three pointer with five seconds to go to give the Bobcats a short-lived 93-90 lead. Winnipeg’s Narcisse Ambanza followed that with a dramatic moment of his own, nailing a stunning half court buzzer beater.
The sequence gave the crowd a roller coaster of emotions with many questioning what they just witnessed. Many looked up to the video board, wondering if the last second shot went off in time, which it did.
After that, overtime began, and Winnipeg were up by six with a minute and half left in the game. Some good defense and missed free throws, gave Brandon a chance to tie the game on the final possession, but a missed layup in the final seconds, secured a Wesmen victory.
With the loss, BU’s record slips to 6-5, while Winnipeg moves to 4-9.
Meanwhile, in the women’s game earlier on in the day, an early 27-2 deficit hurt the Bobcats chances as they lost 86-61 to Winnipeg.
Winnipeg’s Skylar Boulanger finished with a career-high 27 points to go with 14 rebounds and Antoinette Miller recorded her first triple-double. She finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Both teams play rematches with Winnipeg on Saturday, with the woman’s game starting at 5pm, and the men’s game at 7pm.
