Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track & Field Championships will be held in Brandon.
To ensure a sporting event of this scale is a success, a strong volunteer base is necessary.
There are still several key positions that need to be filled.
Barb Andrew, Second Vice President of the Local Legion Brandon Branch #3 will Chair the event and organizers are looking for Committee Chairpersons and volunteers to work the event.
"Work is well underway with Athletics Manitoba, City of Brandon, Brandon University, other Legion Branches located in southwestern Manitoba," says Andrew.
Andrew adds, "Of course the many dedicated volunteers in Brandon and throughout the region to begin the planning process which will culminate in back to back world class track and field events hosted here in the Wheat City."
The week long competition involving upwards of 1000 athletes aged 14 to17 is once again a chance to bring some of the country’s most promising and dedicated young talent to our doorstep.
It is the single most important event in the organizations youth program.
The event has a record of providing the needed impetus to future world and Olympic stars.
The aim of the championships is to support the development of athleticism within the youth of Canada.
Brandon was awarded the event for two consecutive years.
The 2017 event was a huge success and the dates for 2018 are August 8th to the 14th
Track and field experience is not a requirement to volunteer as there are positions available in many areas including entertainment, sponsorship, volunteer coordinator, and public relations.
