Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – It was a busy weekend for the Assiniboine Cougars with four teams playing in three different locations in two countries.
First off, the women’s hockey team traveled to Minot to face the Beavers and narrowly dropped their first two games of the season.
On Sunday, the Cougars lost 3-2. Karli Frederick and Erin Doherty scored for ACC.
On Saturday, the Cougars fell 5-1 to the Beavers.
Erin Doherty scored the lone Cougar marker while Marley Quesnel made 29 stops in net.
The Cougars host the Winnipeg Silvertips in Brandon Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. both games at the Sportsplex.
On the pitch, the Cougars fell to their cross-town rivals, the Brandon Bobcats, on Saturday in Brandon at Optimist Park.
In women’s action, the Bobcats defeated the Cougars 3-0 while BU dropped ACC 6-0 in men’s play.
On Sunday, Assiniboine travelled to Winnipeg to play the Red River Rebels.
The men picked up their first win of the season 2-1.
Jovaughn Thomas scored both of Assiniboine’s goals.
In women’s play, the Cougars fell 4-1 to the Rebels. Jerra Green scored the lone Cougar goal.
The Cougars finish their season this weekend as they host Saint Boniface on Saturday before travelling to Otterburne to play the Providence University Pilots to finish the year.
The final weekend will determine whether the women’s team will make Final Four in Winnipeg on Oct. 27 and 28.
Finally, on the court, the women’s volleyball team were in Otterburne for a tournament hosted by the Providence Pilots.
The Cougars went 3-1 during the two-day tournament.
The Cougars defeated Mayville State 3-0 (23,16,23); defeated Red River 3-1 (23,22,23-25,21); defeated CMU 3-1 (14, 22-25,14,17); and lost to Lakehead University 3-0 (24,24,24).
The Cougars travel to Devil’s Lake this weekend for a tournament.
