Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – A busy weekend for ACC sports began this past Friday when the college’s volleyball teams traveled to Winnipeg to face the Red River Rebels.
The women’s team fell in five sets to the Rebels (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 20-25, 10-15).
Paige Donald led the Cougars’ attack with 12 kills while Blaire De La Mare and Bryanna Sutlic chipped in with nine kills each.
In men’s action, the Cougars swept the Rebels (25-21, 25-20, 25-22).
Will Hatherly had 10 kills and Paycen Warkentin added six.
On Staurday the men’s volleyball team continued to roll as they defeated Red River 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26).
Will Hatherly led the attack with 20 kills and Paycen Warkentin added 10.
In women’s action, the Cougars fell in four sets (25-20, 12-25, 25-16, 25-18).
Paige Donald had nine kills, Jessi Coulter had six and Blaire De La Mare had five.
On the ice at the Sportsplex the the Cougars were victorious over the University of Wisconsin.
Simone Turner-Cummer scored a hat trick as the Cougars doubled up Eau Claire 4-2.
Samantha Christensen added a goal and an assist while Alyssa Alderson had two assists.
Marley Quesnel picked up the win in net as the Cougars badly outshot the Blugolds 46-14.
In the second game of the two-game set against the Blugolds, the Cougars scored four goals en route to a 4-1 win.
Four different shooter got on the scoresheet for Assiniboine as Alyssa Anderson, Rachel Charles, Jasmin Denby and Samantha Christensen scored.
Coming up this weekend, the Cougars host their home tournament.
The opening night game is against the Minot Beavers who are ranked second in the West Region.
The game starts at 6 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
Meanwhile, the volleyball teams host their home openers on Friday starting at 6 p.m. when they host Saint Boniface at the Victoria East Campus’ gym.
