Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Former Wheat King Dylan Myskiw made 30 saves and earned his 11th win of the season as his Edmonton Oil Kings snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 win on Wednesday night.
Despite a quick start for the Wheat Kings, the Edmonton Oil Kings led 3-1 at the first intermission.
For the 14th time this season, the Wheat Kings opened the scoring as Stelio Mattheos notched his 19th of the year on the powerplay just 2:49 into the hockey game.
However, two minutes later Yorkton’s Brett Kemp tied the game with his team-leading 16th of the year.
Quinn Benjafield and Trey Fix-Wolansky would add first period markers in the final five minutes of the period to give the Oil Kings all the momentum heading into the locker room.
After a scoreless second period, the Oil Kings went into shutdown mode keeping the Wheat Kings off the scoresheet and holding them to just seven shots.
Benjafield would seal the game with his 2nd of the night into the empty net to snap a mini two-game losing streak for the Oil Kings.
Jiri Patera made 31 saves in the losing effort in front of 3237 fans at Westoba Place.
The Wheat Kings will play just one game this weekend as the Lethbridge Hurricanes come to town on Friday night. (7:30 on QCountry Radio).
