Let me get this out of the way right off the hop: I love food. I’m kind of like Jughead in that regard, save for the fact that 1) I will never stay as thin as Jughead and 2) My pallate has expanced WAY past burgers, though burgers still hold a special place in my heart.
I’ve been wondering lately, what’re some foods that you consider distinctly “Manitoban”? I’m talking ones that you just get one whiff of, or see on a menu, and think “Yeah…that’s definitely Manitoba-style.”. My mind immeditely goes to two staples of my kitchen: kubasa and perogies. From dinners at my grandparents place, to AYCE perogie suppers at the local church when I was in college, I would most assuredly put that culinary combo at the top of my list. What else is there? I mean, you have honey-dill sauce, Schmoo torte, smoked Goldeye, and lots more! (A handy list I found here ticks off most boxes for me!)
What about you? I want to hear what foods YOU consider quintessentially Manitoban? Lets get a list going! Maybe we’ll even help someone discover some new, and delicious, foods!
