Let me begin by giving credit where it is due – this is Sara’s victory. Not mine.
Like most people during lockdown we’ve had a little extra time on our hands. So those projects you’ve been putting off forever? Well they’ve been a little harder to ignore.
When my Father died (17 years ago… wow) the Family wasn’t exactly sure what to do with the money he left behind. There was a feeling that we wanted his life’s work to be tangible. Dad was always the first to think of the needs of his Family and his community. He LOVED the outdoors and being together with those he cherished was a priority he maintained on TOP of a busy life running a business, volunteering with the Lions Club and the Church. So, we decided, Dad would have wanted us to have a place that we could be together. A place to celebrate, a place to heal and a place to grow.
We purchased four acres of Old Growth forest on Galliano Island. A short Ferry ride from Vancouver B.C. – it was perfect. But (isn’t there always a but?) being the MANITOBA branch of the Family we just don’t get there as often as we’d like – so Sara decided to bring the Forrest to us. She figured she could “recreate” that magical place in our spare room.
Being the supportive Husband I am I informed her that she was insane.
How much WORK would that be?!? Well…Fresh paint, some well placed mirrors and a WALL sized print of the path behind our cabin. Sara managed to recreate the Woods of Galliano in our room.
She will never let me forget it.
