How many siblings do you have? What are the most you have heard of? For my family, my mother is the youngest of eight kids. I always thought “wow that is a big family”. When the television show “19 kids and counting” aired, people were shocked. What if you found out you had 600 half-siblings born over two decades? That is the reality for a Toronto woman after her son, Simon, completed a “23&Me” DNA kit. The family learned throughout a three-year adventure that their genetic origins were connected to a pioneering fertility clinic in London, England, during the Second World War. It was run by Dr. Mary Barton and her husband, Bertold Wiesner. Turns out, Wiesner provided his sperm to clients which are believed to be linked to around 600 children born, including Simon’s mother, Adrianne Smith.
