Manitoba RCMP have arrested and charged one man in connection with the homicide of 36-year-old Tamara Benoit, whose remains were found near Cottonwood Drive, just outside Portage la Prairie, on September 3, 2020.
Officers say 37-year-old Ryan Peters from Long Plain First Nation faces a 2nd-degree murder charge.
Superintendent Michael Koppang, Officer in Charge of Major Crime Services for the Manitoba RCMP says agencies worked closely together, pooling resources and community knowledge, to be able to get to this point, “Putting the handcuffs on someone and charging them with a homicide provides some justice to the deceased and their family, but the fact remains that a young life has been lost.”
A 15-year-old male from Winnipeg was also arrested, but released without charges.
Peters remains in custody.
RCMP continue to investigate and say further arrests are anticipated.
