Sara’s Pantry, Glenboro’s food security program, is off to an incredible start after being approved for a $75,000.00 grant from The Emergency Community Support Fund funded by the Government of Canada.
Tracy Rimmer, Sara’s Pantry Chairperson says they were in shock when they got the news about the approval, “We couldn’t have asked for a more positive result; this funding has set Sara’s Panty up for success for many years to come.”
The funds from this grant will be used first to bring Sara’s Panty’s operating space up to safety standards. The entrance to the Pantry, located in the back of Rimmer Technology on Railway Avenue, will be upgraded to meet accessibility requirements. Inside, storage solutions for food and necessities are first on the list of projects.
The committee is working on a plan to maximize the grant funding impact. “This is a large sum of money for a brand new committee to manage in the short time of the program requirements,” said Karen Burton, Marketing & Community Relations Specialist at Westoba Credit Union and Sara’s Pantry Committee Member. “We are starting with the essentials and taking our time to strategically look at what makes the most sense for the community of Glenboro.”
Sara’s Pantry started regular food hamper distribution this month and plans to stick to a regular bi-monthly schedule for 2021.Hamper registration can be made by email to saraspantry2020@gmail.com or by direct message on the organization’s Facebook page at @saraspantryglenboro.
