Today is International Women’s Day and to celebrate, many people have been sharing posts and photos of inspirational women on Social Media. I work with some truly amazing women and I want to give them all a shoutout.
However, one burger chain is in hot water after making their International Women’s Day Post. Before I go into detail I want to say that I agree with the message but disagree with the execution.
The chain puts on Twitter “Women belong in the kitchen”… Not a great start. They added a second tweet that says “If they want to, of course. Yet only 20% of chefs are women. We’re on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career.” And finally they go on to say “We are proud to be launching a new scholarship programme which will help female employees pursue their culinary dreams”.
The series of tweets got so much backlash that they have now been deleted. I like the message, but the way went about doing it was horrible.
