Over the decades’ hairstyles have evolved. Short sharp bobs in the 1920s, The Jehri Curl in the 1980s and the infamous Mullet, which can be traced back to the 1800s as a popular style among men. Over the 80s and 90s, the style was popularized by artists such as the Beastie Boys with their song “Mullet Head”, Lynyrd Skynryd, Blake Shelton and more. The style comes with many nicknames; The bi-level. The Kentucky waterfall. The Missouri Compromise. Hockey hair and so on. People say it is business in the front and a party in the back. What happens though when the beloved and judged hairstyle gets banned? Well, An elite private boys school in Western Australia has banned the mullet hairstyle after deeming the hairdo “not acceptable”. A recent newsletter sent out by Trinity College in Perth, states: “It is without reservation that the College sets clear requirements that ensure health and safety, as well as setting a high standard for personal presentation. The current trend of growing the hair at the back of the head and/or closely cropping the sides of the head to accentuate the ‘mullet’ style are untidy, non-conventional and not acceptable at Trinity College. As is the trend of long hair and fringes.”
Do you think it is fair for the school to ban a hairstyle? Do you see a lot of mullets being rocked in Westman?
