Two new deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in Manitoba since Tuesday (Aug. 3), increasing the toll to 1,183.
They include;
– a man in his 50s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern; and
– a woman in her 60s from the Interlake-Eastern health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern.
Health officials also announced 54 new cases in the same time period, however, six cases have been removed due to data correction, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 57,739.
Of the new cases; one is in the Prairie Mountain health, and Northern health regions, eight were in Southern health, and 22 were in the Interlake-Eastern health and Winnipeg health regions.
In Prairie Mountain Health 32 cases are active, two of those are in Brandon, and 528 province-wide. There’s also 91 covid patients currrently in hospital battling the virus, and 17 in intensive care units.
The current five-day test positivity rate sits at 2.1 per cent provincially.
Meanwhile, public health officials advise that province will move from restricted level orange to yellow on the Pandemic Response System, effective Saturday, August 7. This change reflects that the spread of COVID-19 is at low to moderate levels.
