The newest, coolest spot in Brandon is ‘Black Wheat Brewing’ at 402 10th Street.
The brew pub has been open for a few weeks, and Tap Room Manager, Dan Evans says they’re currently featuring five beers brewed on site. “We have a ‘Great Scott’ Cream Ale, ‘Empire Ale West Coast IPA’, we have ‘Life on the Beach Tropical Sour’, a Dunkelweizen called ‘Slam Dunk’ and ‘Reality Czech’ – a Czech Pilsner.”

Evans says the ‘Empire Ale’ name is a nod to a former brewery that operated in Brandon 90 years ago. “We used to have a brewery called ‘Empire Brewing’ that ceased operations in 1931.”
He says Black Wheat Brewing is unique in that customers can actually see where their pint was made – it’s more of an experience – more than just walking in, grabbing a box of beer, and walking out again. While there’s no food service on site (they don’t have a kitchen), Evans says don’t let that stop you from ordering in while you enjoy their beers. “People can bring food from wherever they like, they can bring it from home, they can order in pizza, they can always get ‘Skip the Dishes’ to the building, they can bring McDonald’s with them when they come and can eat it in here no problem – we’ll just throw away their garbage when they’re done,” says Evans.
