Prairie Mountain Health support staff, which includes health-care aides, home-care attendants, maintenance, clerical, housekeeping and dietary workers, have voted 97% in favour of strike action.
The Manitoba Government and General Employees Union says support workers in 4 other health regions delivered similar strike mandates.
Talks are on-going with money a major issue – workers’ wages have been frozen for several years.
The current contract for health-care support staff expired in March 2017, while the one for community support workers expired in 2018.
In a statement, the union says it’s after a deal similar to the one the province struck with the Manitoba Nurses Union in June.
Under that agreement, both parties agreed to go to binding arbitration if talks break down.
