The annual Halloween student food drive in Brandon collected more than 2,400 pounds of food items.
It’s an important event for students as a percentage of the non-perishable items go to campus food banks at Brandon University and at Assiniboine Community College. Many students cannot work full-time, and the food banks go a long way to help keep cupboards filled.
The ACC student association brought in 768 pounds of donated food, and BUSU brought in 1,670 pounds for a total of about 2,440 pounds.
Food hampers go out on a bi-weekly basis.
