About one thousand students from Brandon’s Ecole Harrison, St. Augustine School, Riverheights, Valleyview Centennial School and WCHA are to take part in the annual ‘No Stone Left Alone’ Remembrance ceremony this Friday, Nov. 4th. They’ll also be joined by some 45 members of Canadian Forces Base Shilo.
The students will place poppies at the gravesites of about 1,700 veterans.
The No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation is dedicated to honouring and remembering Canada’s veterans. It says “our unique ceremony provides students and youth with an authentic experience that creates knowledge, understanding and appreciation of those who serve and of the sacrifice of Canada’s fallen.
In 2021 – 7,702 students from 88 communities placed 67,171 poppies in 131 ceremonies.
As part of the ceremony in Brandon on Friday, one Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) C-90 King Air training aircraft from 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (3 CFFTS) at Southport Aerospace Centre of Portage la Prairie, Man., will conduct a flyby over the city of Brandon. The flyby will take place on Nov. 4th, 2022 at approximately 10:02 a.m.
The C-90 King Air will fly over the Brandon Cemetery, where the ceremony will be held, at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest point of their route, before resuming a higher flying altitude for the remainder of their flight.
3 CFFTS says “it is honoured to take part in this important event to honor the sacrifice and service of Canada’s military.”
Flybys on RCAF aircrafts are conducted in support of special events and are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times.
