In a media release today, Manitoba RCMP say they will be providing the names of the 15 individuals who died in the June 15, 2023, semi-trailer-minibus collision near Carberry later this week.
A press conference has been scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Aspen Lodge Room at Credit Union Place in Dauphin.
RCMP say First Responders who were on the scene of the crash at the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5 will be in attendance to show respect for those who lost their lives that day. Also attending will be RCMP Superintendent Jeff Asmundson, West District Commander, Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson, and the Mayor of Dauphin David Bosiak.
Meanwhile, a local funeral home in Dauphin has told the Canadian Press it’s “preparing services for the coming days and weeks. Joe Coffey, the owner of Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, says his business has never had to organize so many services at once – but, he says, the real challenge is the emotional turmoil.”
“Coffey says his staff knew everyone who was on the minibus headed to a casino in Carberry when it crossed into the path of an oncoming transport truck last Thursday.”
The City of Dauphin has also announced a Community Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium (8th Avenue Hall) located at 304 Whitmore Avenue East. The city says “the service aims to bring the community together to support each other in the wake of the tragic motor vehicle accident.”
